skauthen@gmail.comI was born where my family is from, the UP of Michigan. I heard a lady on NPR describe it best: "You're almost at the end of the earth, not quite, but you can see it from here. It's hard and it's cold." Today I live where I was raised, in southeast North Carolina: "You're almost at the end of the earth, not quite, but you can see it from here. It's easy and it's warm." My home, however, is in London.
Now, for the important stuff: I enjoy talking about myself - but I will pretend I don't - but nobody will believe that I don't enjoy talking about myself - because I am so clearly vain and a very poor actor. (Ironically, my vanity is the only act I'm any good at). That, out of the way: I am an ENTP (Ex: John Adams, Indiana Jones, Alexander the Great). I enjoy the company of my natural enemy/love interest, the nefarious and sexy INTJ: The only type that does not easily fall for my tricks and is therefore a challenge; and also looks really good in a very plain dress* (Ex: Thomas Jefferson, Sherlock Holmes, Julius Caesar - all lovely in a very plain dress). Everyone else can go to... a tea party. I also enjoy psychological devices - because life is confusing enough without maps. So, welcome to Myers-Briggs! Here is why I am wonderful:
"Clever" is the word that perhaps describes ENTPs best. They are verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their often-impressive skills. They tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. They sometimes confuse, even inadvertently hurt, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport. However they are charming and exude energy and intelligence. They are autonomous, lively and outspoken, and are unafraid to question authority and assert themselves openly. People frequently experience them as catalysts, and are challenged by them to see the world in a new way or approach situations from a new perspective. An ENTP's life is often a succession of adventures. Their private lives reflect their love of diversity and they are likely to pursue hobbies that are exciting and involve an element of risk.
Suggested careers: international spy, comedian, music performer, it consultant, fighter pilot, politician, diplomat, entertainer, bar owner, freelance writer, strategist, comic book artist, college professor, private detective, engineer, lecturer, ambassador, astronomer, research scientist, fbi agent, cia agent, assassin
Actual career: Political Science and History Major with a Minor in International Affairs (not one but TWO useless degrees - compounding my degree of uselessness :D And I am a cashier at a middling retail store. I also have a degree in acting (WTF is that about, whaaaat???), which so shames me that no one who knows me actually knows I went to acting school and so I shall voice this truth on my unvisited livejournal in my eternal search for a cathartic outlet.
Actual actual career: Political dissident, rabble rouser and ne'er-do-well, STUNNING American adventuress and fibbermeister
(I took out all the “bad” parts – if you are interested in my shame, here it is: http://typelogic.com/entp.html)
Here is another time where I use modern psychology as a tool to rub my awesomeness in the face of the less fortunate:

Sevens are extroverted, optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous. Playful, high-spirited, and practical, they can also misapply their many talents, becoming over- extended, scattered, and undisciplined. They constantly seek new and exciting experiences, but can become distracted and exhausted by staying on the go. They typically have problems with impatience and impulsiveness. At their Best: they focus their talents on worthwhile goals, becoming appreciative, joyous, and satisfied.
Like these guys: John F. Kennedy, Benjamin Franklin, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Steven Spielberg, Robin Williams, Howard Stern, John Belushi
Ummm, if I could be any song, I would like to be 'Water Curses,' by Animal Collective - and that's enough about me. Did you enjoy that? So did I. Now this:

I was wondering where I should put this poster: Right between embarrassing myself and satisfying my ego, and an inch over trumpeting my intellectual endeavours. Yes. Proceed -->
Currently reading: "In Pursuit of Reason: The Life of Thomas Jefferson," (I wouldn't say I'm reading this so much asfetishing savouring it) Noble E. Cunningham and "Going Postal," Terry Pratchett
Just finished: "Mrs. Dalloway," Virginia Woolf and "The Wise Virgins" by Leonard Woolf
Favourite fiction: "The English Patient," Michael Ondaatje; "Keep the Aspidistra Flying," Orwell; "Howard's End" and "Passage to India," EM Forster; "Starfighters of Adumar," Aaron Allston; "The Secret Garden," Frances Hodgson Burnett; "The Hobbit," JRR Tolkien; "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats," by T.S. Eliot and Edward Gorey
Favourite nonfiction: "William Pitt the Younger," William Hague; "Doc Holliday: A Family Portrait," Karen Holliday Tanner; "Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs," John Lydon
Favourite authors: George Orwell, Patrick O'Brian, EM Forster, Oscar Wilde, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
If I do anything with my life, I will fight to die with the rights I was born with.
